US digital engineering group GlobalLogic has established a foothold in the north by opening a new base in Newry.

It comes one year after the Hitachi Group company entered the Irish market by acquiring Athlone-based cloud and software firm Sidero.

GlobalLogic said its new base in Newry is part of its expansion plans on the island of Ireland, which it said will assist its global ambitions.

It expects to create 15 jobs over the next two years across human resources, business development, and software engineering.

The digital services firm, which works with tech giants including AWS, Microsoft, and Google, said it will initially target public sector contracts in Northern Ireland, as well as enterprises operating in the healthcare, life sciences, telecoms, financial services, and transport industries.

“This expansion in Northern Ireland cements GlobalLogic’s commitment to businesses on the island of Ireland, while also representing a significant step in our ambitious growth plans,” said Carmel Owens, managing director of GlobalLogic in Ireland.

“This new presence builds on the success we have steered from our Athlone HQ and is a strong validation of the skills, expertise and dedication of the entire GlobalLogic team in Ireland.

“As a champion of regional investment and the advantages that it can deliver, Newry is an ideal base from which we can expand our business.

“We are tapping into the rich economy of Northern Ireland and in doing so, this move will enable us to roll out our services to even more sectors and industries,” she added.

“We anticipate many opportunities for growth in Newry and across Northern Ireland and we look forward with excitement to the next chapter and continued success on the island of Ireland.”
