A Co Donegal man who was critically injured in a car crash in Florida last December has made a ‘miracle recovery’, his family have said.

Daniel Gallagher from Adara was on holiday with his family in Orlando when he was involved in the crash on December 29.

Since the collision, he had been in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Centre where he was under 24-hour care by a team of doctors.

However, on Wednesday he was flown home and was admitted to Letterkenny University Hospital.

Prayers have been offered for Mr Gallagher in the Church of the Holy Family in Adara while a GoFundMe drive has so far raised just under €120,000.

Mr Gallagher’s sister Fiona told Donegal Live: “We are so delighted to get him back on soil, as we never imagined this would be possible six weeks post his accident.

“We hope to get him transferred to the National Rehabilitation Centre for further treatment and rehab on his injuries.”

Fiona said support and the prayers offered for her brother “have made such a difference.

“Daniel is progressing every day and this is truly a miracle,” she said. “He still has a very long hard road to go and at the moment the hospital has recommended that we limit visitors to immediate family only.

“We have been blown away by the kindness and generosity of everyone and we have taken great strength from it all.”
