Derry Girls’ star Siobhán McSweeney will host the new Irish version of hit reality show The Traitors, RTÉ has announced.
Known for playing fan-favourite Sister Michael in the Channel 4 comedy set in Derry during the Troubles, McSweeney will lead the first season of the upcoming reality show.
The BAFTA award-winning actress from Co Cork said she ‘jumped at the chance’ to host the programme.
“Like everyone, I am a huge Traitors fan so when I was asked to host the Irish version I jumped at the chance,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting our loyal Faithful and delicious Traitors.
“The Irish have a charm and ability to deceive while smiling which will make this version rather special, I think. And I’m the luckiest person in the world to watch them close up.”
Much like the award-winning versions of the show in the UK, US and the Netherlands, players will compete to win a prize pot of €50,000 in a ‘game strategy, trust, and betrayal’.
Filmed on location in a castle in Ireland, RTÉ says that a diverse group of 22 contestants from around the country will take part.
‘Faithful’ contestants face daily missions to grow their prize pot whilst attempting to finding the ‘Traitors’ among them.
The news comes as the much-anticipated UK series returns to BBC One on New Years’ Day for its third season.
Among last year’s breakout stars was former teacher Diane Carson from Co Down.
The Traitors Ireland will air on RTÉ1 and RTÉ Player in 2025.
