Donegal road victim named

A man who died after being struck by a van in Co Donegal has been named locally as Michael Toland.

The father-of-three who was aged in his 80s and a much-loved figure in the Clonmany area.

It is believed that he was walking close to his home when the tragedy occurred at Annagh crossroads on the R238 at around 6.20pm on Wednesday.

His funeral will take place at 11am on Saturday at St Mary’s Church, Clonmany with burial afterwards in the new cemetery.

Mr Toland is the seventh road victim in the county in the past month.

To date 15 people have now died on Donegal’s roads in 2024.

A full forensic examination of the scene is being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators



Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

They are also asking anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the collision to make it available.
