Driver killed in Co Mayo crash

A woman aged in her 20s was injured in the collision near Claremorris.

A man aged in his 30s has died in a crash in Co Mayo.

The collision involving two cars took place at around 7.45am on Friday on the R331 at Belladaff, Tagheen, near Claremorris.

The man aged in his 30s – the driver and sole occupant of one of the cars – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car, a woman aged in her 20s, received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Mayo University Hospital.

The R331 (the Claremorris to Ballinrobe Road) is currently closed between Claremorris and Hollymount. Diversions are in place while a technical examination of the scene is carried out.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses or those with video footage to contact gardai.
