The funeral of Eoghán Dawson, who died in a road crash in Co Donegal that also claimed the life of his cousin, is to take place on Monday.

The 20-year-old passed away in hospital on Tuesday following the single-car collision in Inishowen last Saturday.

He had been airlifted from the accident site at the Glentogher Road, near Quigley’s Point.

His cousin, Kián Dawson-Kirk (16), a front seat passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His funeral took place on Thursday in St Brigid’s Church, Carnhill, in Derry.

A funeral notice for Eoghán said he was the son of Lisa Dawson and Conor Smith, grandson of Michael and Michelle Dawson and the late Pat and Hugh Smith, great-grandson of May Dawson and a “much loved nephew and cousin”.

His funeral will be held on Monday, September 2, at St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn a 12.30pm, with interment afterwards in Derry city cemetery.

Belinda Doran, a member of the boys’ extended family, said earlier this week that the family were experiencing a “living nightmare” as a result of their deaths.

“Two beautiful cousins, Eoghán and Kían will now remain forever young,” she said.

A fundraising page set up in memory of the two cousins has gathered more than £27,000, which it said would help “cover funeral costs and alleviate pressure from our devastated family”.
