Irish woman hospitalised in Spain after horrific accident at friend’s wedding

The 29-year-old was seriously injured after her dress caught fire

An Irish woman is fighting for her life in a Spanish hospital after a horrific accident at a friend’s wedding.

The incident happened at a post ceremony celebration in the the Costa del Sol just before midnight on Thursday.

The 29-year-old was seriously injured when her dress caught fire on decorative candles in the bathroom of a holiday apartment in Nerja.

She was found semi conscious and taken to hospital in the nearby city of Malaga for emergency treatment.

She was then transferred to the major burns unit at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville where her condition “remains uncertain”.

It is understood that she suffered serious burns to her legs and body.



A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
