A man has died in a suspected drowning incident in Co Donegal.

It is believed the deceased was fishing off rocks near the Roughey Cliffs in Bundoran, when he fell into the Atlantic.

Gardaí were tasked to Tullan Strand in the seaside town at approximately 10:45am on Thursday, following the discovery of a body.

Emergency services, including the Irish Coast Guard’s Search and Rescue Helicopter 118, arrived at the scene but the man was pronounced dead.

His remains have been taken to Sligo University Hospital, pending post-mortem.

According to Garda, the results of this will determine the course of their investigation.
