Two men who were arrested after a crash in Co Monaghan in which two teenage best friends were killed on their way to a debs ball have been released.
Kiea McCann, 17, and Dlava Mohamed, 16, died when the car they were travelling in left the road and crashed into a tree just outside Clones on July 31.
Hundreds attended the funerals of the students, who had been close friends since Dlava’s family arrived in Clones as part of a resettlement programme for Syrians.
In a statement on Friday evening, gardai said two men (aged in their 60s and 40s) arrested that morning have since been released.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
There has been a renewed focus by the Irish Government on road deaths this year since the Co Monaghan crash, and another fatal accident in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, in which four young people, including a brother and sister were killed.
