Man charged with conspiracy to commit murder over Banbridge shooting

Accused is due to appear before court in August

Police have sealed off the area around a taxi at with a shot out passenger side windown in a public car park at Rathfrailand Road in Banbridge following the shooting of a man on Friday night.
The man is in a serious condition in hospital and a man has been arrested after a car was found burning about five miles away.
Police are appealing for witnesses.

A man has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the shooting of a man in Banbridge.

The 46-year-old was charged on Thursday by police investigating the shooting of Brian McCourt in a car park in the Co Down town’s Rathfriland Road area on April 12.

Mr McCourt, who is aged in his 40s, was critically injured when he was shot in the abdomen by a masked man while he sat in a taxi.



A number of people have been arrested in connection with the attack, and a PSNI spokesperson said: “The investigation is ongoing.”

The man charged with conspiracy to murder is due to appear before Banbridge Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry Courthouse, on August 8.

The charge will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
