Anti-immigration protest outside Belfast city centre hotel

An anti-immigration protest outside a Belfast city centre hotel has ended, amid no reports of violence.

A small crowd of around 15 people had gathered outside the Clayton Hotel on Ormeau Avenue from shortly before 6pm on Monday amid a significant police presence.

The protest had been due to start outside the hotel at 5pm after details were shared online. It is understood asylum seekers have not stayed in the hotel.

It was around an hour later before protesters began to arrive, with other counter groups also gathering nearby.

Some of the groups could be heard chanting, while others carried Union flags with one man unfurling a banner that said ‘Ulster says no to asylum seekers’.

A number of the anti-immigration protestors were moved away from the counter protesters by police.

It is understood the protesters left around 15 minutes later.
