Householders who have not had their bins emptied for the past seven weeks are now facing the prospect of having to wait until September 13 at least.

The situation. which has resulted in rubbish piling up in parts of the borough, is due to industrial action by environmental services workers at Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s waste depot in Armagh.

In a statement to The Irish News, a spokesperson for Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council said: “We are extremely disappointed in this course of action and regret the impact this has on households across the Armagh area.

“It is regrettable that Unite have taken this action before exhausting all internal procedures.”
