Armagh crash tragedy: Funerals for three victims to take place on Friday

Funerals for three of the four young people killed in a tragic road crash in Armagh are to take place on Friday.

Separate services for Marina Crilly (24), Phillip Mitchell (27) and Keith Morrison (22) will be held in Co Armagh.

On Sunday, mourners will gather for the funeral of Emma Mallon (22).

All four were killed when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in struck a tree at Ballynahonemore Road, near Armagh, at around 2.10am on Sunday.

It is understood the car burst into flames on impact.

All four were declared dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, police said a thorough and sensitive investigation into what happened was under way.



“The thoughts of the entire police service are very much with the families, friends and loved ones of these young people who have lost their lives in what was an unspeakable tragedy,” Inspector Cherith Adair said.

“A thorough and sensitive investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened remains ongoing.

“We are asking anyone who might have any information which could assist us to get in touch with the Collision Investigation Unit.”

The first of the funerals, for mother-of-one Ms Crilly, will take place at St Patrick’s Church, Ballymacnab on Friday at 11am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Family and friends of Mr Morrison are due to gather for his funeral in Lislooney Presbyterian Church, Tynan at noon with committal afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

They were Marina Crilly, aged 24, Emma Mallon, aged 22, Philip Mitchell, aged 27, and Keith Morrison, aged 22. They were all from the Armagh area.
The collision, which involved a grey Volkswagen Golf, occurred on the Ballynahonemore Road at around 2.10am on Sunday, 24th March.
The driver and three passengers of the vehicle were sadly declared deceased at the scene.
Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Police Service's Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The thoughts of the entire Police Service are very much with the families, friends and loved ones of these young people who have lost their lives in what was an unspeakable tragedy.
“A thorough and sensitive investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened remains ongoing. The Ballynahonemore Road, which had been closed since the collision occurred, has now fully re-opened.
“We are asking anyone who might have any information which could assist us to get in touch with the Collision Investigation Unit.
“The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 180 of 24/03/24.”

Mr Mitchell will also be laid to rest on Friday following his funeral in First Presbyterian Church Armagh at 2.30pm.

Interment will take place afterwards at Ballynahone Cemetery.

Ms Mallon’s funeral will take place on Sunday at St John’s Church, Middletown at 2pm followed by burial in St Joseph’s Cemetery Madden.
