Farmer Seamus McDonnell from Killeavy is getting ready for attending his 48th All-Ireland Senior Football Final in a row - and his sheep are getting in on the action as well.

Seamus (78) is an uncle of Armagh GAA great Steven McDonnell and attended his first final between his native county and Dublin in 1977, which resulted in defeat for the Orchardmen.

2002 saw Seamus’ nephew star in the maiden Sam Maguire win for Armagh and his uncle says it was a ‘special’ day he hopes to see repeated next Sunday in Croke Park.

25 of Seamus’ 500-strong flock have got the orange treatment in the run up to the big day.

“I first painted the sheep orange in 2002 and it worked out all right that day so we’ll see how we get on next Sunday,” he said.

“I’m 78 now and I’ll keep going until Armagh keep going anyway.

“I’m looking forward to the match, I can feel it in my bones that Armagh are going to do it.

“It’s been a great year for the team so far and we’re backing them to go all the way.”
