A Co Armagh musician has sparked a TikTok craze as hundreds of videos have featured his song building up to the county’s All-Ireland success on Sunday.

Paul Loughran from folk band Plenty in the Tank released his song G Stands for Geezer, named after Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney, on the eve of the Orchard county’s victory over Galway at Croke Park.

The catchy tune was played at the team’s homecoming event at the Athletics Ground in Armagh City on Monday evening, sending thousands of fans wild as the victorious players sang along.

Now the song itself has racked up more than a million views on the social media platform, with users posting comedy videos featuring the song as they soak in the Sam Maguire success this week.

“I put the clip out on TikTok, I didn’t even have a song at that stage,” Paul said.

“It went mad and I had to scramble the next day to get a full song together.

“It just kind of snowballed then and got massive. Every second video you open on Tiktok now that song is in the background.

“The players lifted the trophy in the Athletic Grounds on Monday to my song, it was just mental.

“I spoke to one of the players on Tuesday there and they said that they hadn’t heard it until it came on in the Carrickdale on Sunday night and it became a favourite right away.”
