Armed response officers called after reports of altercation in east Belfast involving four men

Police have made an arrest following reports of a man in possession of a sword in east Belfast yesterday evening, Thursday 10th October.

Inspector Savage said: “At approximately 5.50pm we received a report on an ongoing altercation involving four men in the Channing Street area, one of whom was brandishing a sword at the others. 

“Armed Response Officers attended and the man aged 38 was arrested on suspicion of possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place.

“He remains in police custody at this time.

“This was an example of excellent police work with our officers responding quickly and ensuring that no one was injured during this terrifying incident.

Police have made an arrest after responding to reports a man brandishing a sword was involved in an altercation with three others in east Belfast early on Thursday evening.

Armed response officers were called following the report received at around 5.50pm of an “ongoing altercation” involving four men, one with a sword, on Channing Street off the Castlereagh Road.

The report stated the man was brandishing the sword at the three others, police said.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place. He remained in police custody early on Friday afternoon.

“This was an example of excellent police work with our officers responding quickly and ensuring that no one was injured during this terrifying incident,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
