Car occupants ‘lucky’ after plank of wood pierces windscreen in crash

The occupants of a car have had a narrow escape after the vehicle’s windscreen was impaled by a plank of wood in a crash in Co Down.

The collision happened in the Downpatrick area on Sunday, and the PSNI shared images of the damage to the car on social media.

The photos were posted to the Police Newry, Mourne and Down Facebook page, and show a plank of wood having pierced the windscreen and extending out through the driver-side window.

We attended this collision just outside Downpatrick this afternoon. The occupants of the car were lucky to escape with minor injuries. The roads are wet today - Please take care when you are driving about.

The front of the car was severely damaged, but no-one was seriously injured in the crash, according to police.

A PSNI spokesperson wrote on the page: “We attended this collision just outside Downpatrick this afternoon. The occupants of the car were lucky to escape with minor injuries.”



They added: “The roads are wet today - Please take care when you are driving about.”
