Children were playing close to a wall that was “completely destroyed” in a crash in west Belfast, police have said.

Officers are appealing for information and witnesses to come forward after the collision in the Mount Eagles Avenue area on Tuesday, following which the driver of the vehicle left the scene.

They have urged the driver to come forward and said they were likely injured as a result of the crash.

The black-coloured vehicle revered “at speed” into the wall shortly before 5.20pm.

“The power of the collision completely destroyed the double brick wall and the vehicle made off from the scene,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

“Children were playing in the area at the time, in close proximity to the damaged wall.

“We would ask the driver to come forward, as we are concerned that they may have suffered injury in the collision.”

They added: “We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident and can provide information on the vehicle involved.

“The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1275 of 24/09/24.”
