A five-year-old child has suffered a broken leg after a collision in north Belfast in which a cyclist failed to stop.

The PSNI is appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in the Duncairn Gardens area of the city on the afternoon of Thursday 29 August.

The child was walking with her mother at the time when she was struck by the cyclist. The young girl was taken to hospital where it was confirmed she had suffered a broken leg.

“We are appealing for witnesses following a collision which left a child with a serious leg injury on Thursday, 29th August,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

“The 5-year-old was walking with her mother in the Duncairn Gardens area at around 1.30pm when she was struck by a cyclist. The cyclist did not stop.

“The child was later taken to hospital for treatment, where it was confirmed that her leg was broken.

“We are carrying out enquiries in order to identify the cyclist. We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who may have any other information which could assist with our investigation to get in touch.”
