Wind conditions on the Irish Sea disrupted pre-Christmas travel plans over the weekend, after ferry operators were forced to cancel sailings due high wind conditions.
Stena Line cancelled crossings between Belfast and Cairnryan, while P&O said all sailings between Larne and Cairnryan were cancelled until 8pm on Sunday.
A yellow warning for wind, which came into force at 7am on Saturday, remained in place until 9pm on Sunday night.
Alongside the warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry, Met Éireann issued a yellow warning for wind in Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
Stefan Donnelly was among those had travel plans disrupted.
The 35-year-old had journeyed from London to Scotland on Saturday, where he discovered his ferry from Cairnryan to Larne had been cancelled.
Mr Donnelly had planned to travel at 8pm on Saturday but managed to rebook onto the 8pm sailing on Sunday.
The marketing manager, who is travelling home to the north for Christmas, said communication from P&O Ferries had been poor as he only discovered his sailing had been cancelled from social media.
“I was on my way to Cairnryan yesterday and happened to check Twitter to discover my ferry was cancelled,” Mr Donnelly said.
“I stopped in Ayr and booked a night in a hotel there.
“There wasn’t any communication from P&O, I didn’t get an email or a text message or anything.
“I was on the phone for about an hour-and-a-half this morning but I eventually got through to someone.
“They were saying on the Twitter side that the 8pm ferry I’m getting today was full but then they weren’t actually, and I’m traveling as a foot passenger, which makes it easier for (P&O).”
Flights were largely unaffected by the weather conditions, with just a handful of services impacted, including British Airway’s Heathrow to Belfast City Airport flight on Sunday.
Heathrow said a “small number of flights” had been cancelled due to “strong winds and airspace restriction”.
In Portrush, the annual Santa Splash charity event, planned for West Strand Beach on Sunday, has been cancelled due to the sea conditions.
In a statement, Portrush Yacht Club said: “As organisers we take our responsibility to ensure the safety of all participants and volunteers seriously and as a result it has left us with no other option.
“However, we’d like to invite you all to Portrush Yacht Club for hot fruit punch, mince pies, our world famous raffle, live music and plenty of festive cheer, as we raise vital funds for RNLI Portrush.”
