A Portadown man who was critically injured while travelling in Thailand has died, his former employer confirmed on Friday.
Ryan Daly, who was 27, had been in the south-east Asian country as part of a round-the-world trip when he was involved in a “devastating accident” earlier this week.
Details of his death were posted to a fundraising page set up by J&K Coaches, which is based in Moneymore, Co Derry, and for which Mr Daly had previously worked as an ambulance care attendant.
The page had raised over £36,500 after it was created while Mr Daly remained on life-support.
His mother and sister had travelled to Thailand to be by his bedside in hospital.
In a post to their justgiving.com fundraising page, a spokesperson for J&K Coaches said: “This morning, we woke to the heart-wrenching news of Ryan’s passing. Our deepest condolences go out to his mum Julie, his sister Lucy, his extended family, friends, and colleagues during this profoundly difficult time.”
The company has thanked those who donated to the appeal and offered support to Mr Daly’s family.
“Your words have been truly heartwarming, and we are confident that when Ryan’s family are ready, they will find great solace in reading them,” they said.
“Ryan was a remarkable person, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. At this time, we kindly ask that you keep Ryan’s family in your thoughts and prayers.”
It is understood that Mr Daly ran his own cleaning company, and his ex-employer’s fundraising page had described how he had embarked on an “adventure of a lifetime at 27 years old, pursuing his dream of travelling the world”.
“One of his stops was in Thailand, a breathtaking country rich with unforgettable experiences,” they said.
A death notice describes Mr Daly as the “dearly loved son of Julie and Peader and much loved brother of Lucy”.
No funeral details have yet been confirmed.
