“A fearless competitor - tough as nails and always willing to put his body on the line - Stephen was a true Teemore man who loved getting stuck in.

“He would have played in 2024 if not for travel commitments and often spoke of his plans to return in 2025.

They added: “Our deepest condolences go out to Stephen’s family and friends.”

Paying tribute, James McCaffrey wrote: “Had the pleasure of having him play for the reserves, he asked no questions just got on with his job with true Teemore spirit.”

Patricia McKillon said: “Stephen, your family friends and community will miss you immeasurably. You were a gentleman.”

Members of Teemore Shamrocks will take part in a guard of honour at Stephen’s funeral, which will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Teemore on Friday.
