A driver had a lucky escape after a tree crashed on to her car in east Belfast during the height of the storm.

The driver, who had to travel due to a family emergency, was shaken after the tree was blown over, but unhurt. It happened at the junction of the Circular Road and Cairnburn Road.

This was one of a number of incidents where trees fell on cars. Two vehicles on the Lurgan Road in Dromore, County Down,were damaged by several falling trees. A car and a van could be seen under branches.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has asked the public to continue to “stay in place”, saying emergency crews are struggling to attend incidents.
