Police in Co Down have arrested a driver after he was found to be “so drunk that he struggled to stand and talk”.

The arrest happened in Ballynahinch on Sunday evening, ahead of the driver’s car being seized.

A PSNI spokesperson described the incident in a post to the Police Newry, Mourne and Down Facebook page.

“The driver of this Volkswagen Golf was stopped this evening in Ballynahinch. He was so drunk that he struggled to stand and talk properly,” they said.

“He was also disqualified from driving until 2027, had no insurance on his car and had drugs in his car. He was arrested, as well as the passenger in the car.”

They added the man “faces the possibility of going to prison when he attends court, due to his actions and his clear disregard for other road users”.



They added that another driver was arrested in the Clough area of Co Down on Sunday after he was reported as “driving all over the road”.

“Not only was he drunk, but the car which he was driving had been stolen. He was also arrested,” they added.
