‘Extensive damage’ to four buildings in Co Down arson attack

Police are appealing for witnesses and more information

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a fire in Moneyreagh.

Inspector Burke said: ÒJust after 11.30pm on Friday, 20th September, police received a report from our colleagues at Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service that they were attending a fire at Ballybeen Road, Moneyreagh.

ÒOfficers attended and it was established that the fire had been started deliberately in a commercial yard, causing extensive damage to a stables, a static caravan and two unused outbuildings. 

ÒThankfully, no persons or animals were inside the buildings.  

Inspector Burke continued: "We are treating this attack as arson.

A fire in Co Down is being treated as an arson attack by police after “extensive damage” was caused to four buildings on Friday night.

Officers were alerted to the incident on the Ballybeen Road in Moneyreagh by the fire service at around 11.30pm.

“Officers attended and it was established that the fire had been started deliberately in a commercial yard, causing extensive damage to a stables, a static caravan and two unused outbuildings,” a police spokesperson said.

“Thankfully, no persons or animals were inside the buildings.

“We are treating this attack as arson,” they added.
