A file has been sent to prosecutors by police investigating allegations of fraud relating to nomination papers for a Sinn Féin council election candidate.

Three people have been interviewed by police after complaints were received in relation to an electoral form for candidate Gerard Magee, who stood for election to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council last year.

It is understood Mr Magee, who was not elected after receiving just 86 first-preference votes, is not one of the three people, and following the interviews a file was sent by police to the Public Prosecution Service.

A Sinn Féin spokesperson said it would be “inappropriate” to comment during an ongoing investigation.
