Five lorries have been completely burnt out in a major blaze at a quarry in west Belfast, which police have said is being treated as “deliberate ignition”.
The vehicles were set alight at the site on the Upper Springfield Road on Sunday night.
It is understood that some of the vehicles were equipped with gas canisters.
Three fire engines and firefighters from Springfield and Cadogan fire stations attended the blaze at around 11.45pm.
Crews used water, compressed air foam systems and breathing apparatus to tackling the fire.
The incident was dealt with by 2am.
Police said that that initial investigations by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) indicate that the blaze was started deliberately.
It is reported that number of searches were carried out in the immediate vicinity of the fire.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly after 11.30pm, officers received and responded to a report of vehicles alight at premises on the Upper Springfield Road.
“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.
“Five lorries were completely burnt out as a result of the incident, which is being treated as deliberate ignition at this stage.
“Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.
“Officers remain at the scene this morning, and enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area yesterday evening, or who has any information which might assist us, to get in touch.
