Tyrone GAA legend Peter Canavan is lending his name to the new look of a popular hospitality venue close to the county’s team headquarters.

Kelly’s Inn at Garvaghy, located beside the Tyrone GAA Garvaghy Centre of Excellence, has changed its name to Canavan’s following a takeover by a business owned by Mr Canavan, who was part of the Tyrone football senior squad that won the All-Ireland championship in 2003 and 2005.

The six All-Star Award-winner went on to manage the Fermanagh senior team from 2011 to 2013.

Social media accounts for Kelly’s Inn changed their name to Canavan’s on Monday.

The venue, which features a restaurant, bar and accommodation, was established by the Kelly family in 1937.

Its website describes it as “one of Tyrone’s oldest and most famous bars and restaurants ideally situated on one of Ireland’s most ancient highways leading from Donegal in the west, Antrim in the north and Dublin in the south”.

A post on the social media pages said: “As we begin our new venture, as we now know it, it’s only fitting and proper that we give a message of our gratitude to The Kelly Family,”
