Four people taken to hospital following six-vehicle crash on M5 near Belfast

The route was closed for around three hours after the collision

Four people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving six vehicles on the M5 near Belfast.

The collision happened on the motorway between Greencastle and Rushpark Roundabout on Saturday at around 1pm.

Police said at the time that a “number of vehicles” were involved.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said four people were taken to hospital after the crash.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 13:12 following reports of a multi vehicle road traffic collision on M5,” a spokesperson said.

“NIAS despatched one rapid response paramedic, six A&E crews, one HART crew, one non emergency crew, five ambulance officers and one independent ambulance crew to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, four patients were taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital.”



The route, which was closed following the collision, re-opened at around 4pm on Saturday.

A spokesperson for Trafficwatch NI said: “North Belfast - the M5 has now been reopened between Greencastle and the Rushpark Roundabout following an earlier multi vehicle road traffic collision”.
