Fourth man arrested over Banbridge shooting

Man is detained after a search by police in the Dromara area

Police have sealed off the area around a taxi at with a shot out passenger side windown in a public car park at Rathfrailand Road in Banbridge following the shooting of a man on Friday night.
The man is in a serious condition in hospital and a man has been arrested after a car was found burning about five miles away.
Police are appealing for witnesses.

A man in his twenties has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder by police investigating a shooting in Banbridge.

He is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the shooting of Brian McCourt at a car park in the town’s Rathfriland Road area on April 12.

Mr McCourt, who is in his forties, was critically injured when he was shot in the abdomen by a masked man.

Wednesday’s arrest followed a search of residential premises in the Dromara area in Co Down.

The man was later released on bail pending further enquiries, while a further search connected with the investigation was carried out at a property in the Hillsborough area, with several items seized by police.

“To date, we have made four arrests as part of this ongoing investigation. Three men aged 46, 39 and 34 years old who were previously arrested remain on police bail as enquiries continuing,” a PSNI spokesperson said.



“We continue to appeal for information in relation to this investigation and we would be keen to hear from anyone who may be able to assist, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1683 12/04/24.

“We would especially like to hear from anyone who may have any CCTV, dash-cam or mobile footage of what happened. This information could greatly help with our enquiries.”
