Kyle McDermott died following an incident at the home he shared with his partner, Chloe McGonagle late on Sunday.

The funeral of Kyle McDermott who died following an incident outside his Tyrone home will take place in his native Burt, Co Donegal on Sunday.

Mr McDermott (24) died in hospital early on Monday following an incident close to the home he shared with his partner, Chloe McGonagle at Ballymagorry, outside Strabane. It is understood Ms McGonagle witnessed the incident in which her partner sustained fatal injuries.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with Mr McDermott’s manslaughter. Daniel Patrick Hanna, whose address was given as Victoria road, Strabane, appeared at Dungannon Magistrates court, charged in connection with Mr McDermott’s death. He was remanded in custody to appear by video-link at Strabane Magistrates court on October 31.



Mr McDermott’s funeral will take place from his family home at Castlecooley, Burt at 1.20pm on Sunday for Mass at St Aengus’ Church at 2pm. The Co Donegal man, who is a cousin of former deputy mayor of Derry and Strabane, Jason Barr, will be buried afterwards at Burt cemetery.

An independent councillor in Strabane, Mr Barr said his cousin’s family was “devastated beyond words”.

“A smile that will never be seen again,” Mr Barr said.
