The funeral is to take place on Friday of a young man whose body was recovered after being missing in Derry for over two weeks.
Donal Armstrong, who was from the Eglinton area of Co Derry, had been missing since the end of last month when it was reported the 23-year-old had entered the River Foyle.
His body was found last Sunday following a 15-day operation led by Foyle Search and Rescue in partnership with other agencies, including rescue teams from counties Louth and Mayo.
A death notice describes Donal as the “much loved son of Aisling and Damien, dearest brother of Caoimhe, Aoibheann and Diarmuid, deeply loved by his adoring grandparents Rosemary, James, Lilah and the late William and a cherished nephew and cousin”, and adds: “He will be sorely missed by all of his extended family and friends.”
Donal was involved with Scouts Northern Ireland, and in a statement on Thursday, a spokesperson for the organisation said: “Donal was an enthusiastic and inspiring Scout who represented Scouting at all levels, freely giving his time to help others within Scouting and beyond.
“We will always remember the fun and friendship Donal brought wherever he went. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the entire Armstrong family, Donal’s friends, and his Scouting family.”
A funeral will be held at noon on Friday at Star of The Sea Church, Faughanvale, before a burial in the adjoining cemetery.
