Funeral to take place for well known publican

Prominent Belfast publican Thomas ‘Tom’ Slevin has been remembered as a ‘gentleman’ ahead of his funeral on Thursday.

Mr Slevin died suddenly and unexpectedly at home on June 19.

His Blackthorn bar was off Church Street in the city centre and frequented by musicians and journalists.

He also owned the Old House in Albert Street.

Head of Hospitality Colin Neil said: “We are really saddened to here about the passing of such a prominent figure in the trade.

“Many will fondly remember his bar the Blackthorn and the Old House.

“The older generation of publicans are real characters and he will be truly missed and hard to replace.”

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s, Antrim Road on Thursday at 11am followed by cremation at Roselawn Crematorium at 1.20pm.

He is survived by daughters Caroline, Siobhán and Pauline, grand-children, Ciara, Aidan, Niall, Connie, Cian, Aoibhín, Damhán and great grandson Joshua.
