A man and a young girl had to flee their Co Antrim home after an armed and masked intruder broke in and pointed a gun at them.

The incident happened just before 7.45pm on Monday in the village of Ahoghill near Ballymena.

Police received reports that a man “smashed the glass of a door” at a home in the Laurel Park area before entering.

“It was reported that the intruder, who had his face covered, then pointed a gun at the male householder and a female child,” a police spokesperson said.

“The householder then left the property with the child.
