Helicopter crash victim was 46-year-old father-of-two and IT entrepreneur

One of two men who died following a helicopter crash in Co Westmeath has been named as Niall Crosby from Glenageary in south Dublin.

The 46-year-old, originally from Straffan in Co Kildare, was “was a highly successful IT consultant, entrepreneur and founder who had spent much of his working life in London”, a spokesperson for the family said.

Mr Crosby, with wife Jillian and their two children, had returned to Dublin to raise their family in recent years.

“Niall’s family would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with their condolences over the past extraordinarily difficult 24 hours,” the spokesperson said.

“They would like to particularly thank the first responders and the various authorities who have been so understanding and professional.

“We also have a special thought for Niall’s co-pilot and his family at this tragic time.”

The second person who died in the accident is originally from Eastern Europe.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) are continuing to look into the cause of the crash. It happened around 3.30pm near Killucan.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses, including those who may have pictures or videos of the helicopter in the area prior to the crash.
