The world of showbiz is to descend on the north west next week when Hollywood A-lister, Russell Crowe, singer Ronan Keating and comedian, Jimmy Carr visit the Donegal border town of Muff.

Ed Sheeran may also join them on Tuesday for the opening of a new distillery, cocktail bar and café.

The four stars are investors in Inishowen drinks’ firm the Muff Liquor Company which specialises in potato-based gin and vodka as well as peat-smoked whiskey.

Company co-founder, Laura Bonner confirmed the stars were due to attend the opening of the new centre in the Main Street.

“Ed is 50-50 because he’s on tour at the moment but the other three are definitely coming,” she said.

Ms Bonner understands three of stars have already booked air travel and accommodation in the region.

The businesswoman said her company was growing from strength to strength and recently signed a major deal to launch its products in the US this October.

While the arrival of the showbiz stars will be a cause of excitement in Muff, it’s unlikely that it will be the first time Sheeran has visited the village.

The singer has stayed in nearby Culmore on a number of occasions as a guest of his close friend and Snow Patrol singer/songwriter, Jonny McDaid. McDaid’s girlfriend, Friends star, Courtney Cox has also been a frequent visitor to the area.

In the village’s “Squealing Pig” pub on Wednesday, local people were taking the arrival of the stars in their stride. Patrick Toland, who organises the annual “Muff Run” charity fund-raiser, said it would be good publicity for the village.

“It’s fantastic for the village; maybe they’ll drop into the Squealing Pig,” Mr Toland said.
