TUV leader Jim Allister has dethroned Ian Paisley Jr for the North Antrim seat in the General Election. 450 votes was the difference with Jim Allister receiving 11,642 votes and the DUP veteran receiving 11,192

Held by a unionist since its creation in 1885, Ian Paisley Jr took over the seat from his father meaning it has been in the family for over 50 years.

However, it appears the TUV’s consistent anti-protocol stance has likely appealed to unionist voters, upset by the DUPs implementation of the Windsor Framework.

The North Antrim MLA was standing in the election for the first time since 2010.

Many voters also would have voted for UUP Robin Swann who switched and won the seat of South Antrim in the election.

Philip McGuigan of Sinn Fein came third with 7,714 votes, while Alliance candidate Sian Mulholland received 4,488.

UUP Jackson Minford came in fifth with 3,901 votes.
