Monday morning saw city centre commuters arrive into the new £340m Grand Central Station for the first time as a new generation of rail travel was kickstarted in Belfast city centre.
Following a soft launch from Translink on Sunday when trains departed from the new station for the first time, carriages were busy on Monday as commuters flooded the station.
The opening of the new station also saw the full reopening of the Portadown train line, with commuters welcoming the reintroduction of services between Lisburn and Belfast.
A number of stations on the same line have now started servicing passengers again, including Dunmurry, Finaghy, Balmoral, Adelaide, City Hospital and Botanic.
Belfast to Dublin Enterprise trains have also begun departing from Grand Central, although the new hourly service won’t start until later this month.
While rail services are now fully operational at the new station, associated works in the area around it are expected to take another year to complete, while a number of businesses including BrewDog and Pret a Manger are expected to open at the station in the coming months.
