Three men have been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on charges relating to the claim of responsibility for shooting of police officer John Caldwell last year.

Caolan Brogan (24) of Bluebellhill Gardens in Derry, Joseph Campbell (23) of Gosheden Cottages in Derry and Tiernan McFadden (26) of Carnhill in Derry appeared at a Preliminary Enquiry on Wednesday.

They were charged with, on February 26 2023, being in possession of documents claiming responsibility for the attempted murder of officer John Caldwell.

They were also charged with electronically transmitting contents containing this claim.

It was accepted that there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

None of the three chose to make any statements or to call any witnesses.

The three were returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a date to be fixed and released on bail.
