Two sons of John Hume are the follow the route of a famous French cycle race to raise funds for the Derry-based Children in Crossfire charity.

Aidan and John Junior will cover 700 kilometers (435 miles) from Paris to Nice over six days in September.

Established in 1996 to help children in war and poverty zones, Children in Crossfire was founded by Richard Moore who was blinded by a rubber bullet as a ten-year-old in 1972.

“The people of Derry are rightly very proud of the impact Children in Crossfire make in the lives of so many children and John and I are pleased to be doing our bit to support such a wonderful cause,” Aidan Hume said.

Mr Moore said he was delighted that the brothers were raising funds for Children in Crossfire.

“Everyone in Derry knows the great esteem in which the Hume family are held so to have their support means a great deal to us. They are certainly following in their mother and father’s footsteps, taking action to improve the lives of those with least in our world,” the Derry man said.
