A judge has convicted a former police officer of a series of thefts and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Former PSNI Constable Mark Goddard was due to attend Lisburn Magistrates Court on Thursday to contest nine offences of theft.
But the 39-year-old failed to appear and after District Judge Rosie Watters convicted him on each of the nine counts, she issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Giving unchallenged evidence Peter and Hilary Niblock confirmed they had made a total of five police statements which they wanted to adopt as their evidence.
Defence counsel Stewart Hindley told the court because his client had not attended, he was not in a position to either cross-examine either witness or to present evidence as part of any defence case.
Accordingly, DJ Watters recorded guilty verdicts on each of the nine counts of theft, committed by Goddard between 1 January 2019 23 November 2019.
The nine charges relate to the thefts of seven Scaletrix cars and accessories “of an unknown value”, Haynes car manuals for classic BMW and Honda Civic and diecast models of a VW Campervan and Beetle.
The offences are also connected to the thefts of a Harp mirror and dining seat covers, perfume, aftershave and Ugg boots, a boxed Harry Potter figure, spot lamp covers for a classic Ford as well as car speakers, laptop and an Apple TV.
In August 2021, Goddard was handed a two-year sentence for misconduct in public office, offences which saw him formally dismissed from the PSNI in October 2021.
With a warrant now issued for his arrest, Goddard could soon be back in the dock again.
