Irish Fringe culture festival Luí Lúnasa is getting underway in Belfast as it celebrates its tenth year of Irish Language events.
Based in Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich in the city’s Gaeltacht quarter, the festival provides music, movies, talks and family events.
Highlights at this years event include a Poetry Slam, a discussion panel and a live concert from the Cultúrlann’s theatre space.
Events manager Sinéad Nic Colai, said Liú Lúnasa has thrived over the past decade.
“It was a trail blazer in terms of producing an event that was geared towards the Irish language and culture without being too traditional,” she said.
“When it first started it was aimed at 18-25 year olds and was a platform for young people with an Irish speaking background to come together. Now its grown into a large community festival for all ages to enjoy.”
As well as everything from talks to rooftop yoga to family events, there will be an opportunity to learn Irish by attending intensive courses.
The festival concert features north Belfast Irish language rapper Torby, bilingual rock bank The Shan Vans and Tradtronica band Hauartan followed by an afterparty.
Liú Lúnasa takes place between August 29 and August 31.
