A lorry driver has admitted causing the death of a pedestrian who was knocked down on the outskirts of Belfast.

Mother-of-three Anne Brown (61) died from the injuries she sustained after being struck by a lorry in Glengormley in February 2022.

Patrick Campbell, from Lurgan Road in Crumlin, was due to stand trial at Belfast Crown Court after initially denying a charge of causing Mrs Brown’s death by driving dangerously.

Before the jury was sworn, Campbell’s barrister Charles MacCreanor KC asked that his client be re-arraigned on the single count.

After confirming his identity to a court clerk, Campbell (49) was then charged that he caused Anne Brown’s death by driving dangerously on the Antrim Road in Glengormley.

When asked how he pleaded, Campbell replied guilty.

Following this, Mr MacCreanor told Judge Sandra Crawford he was seeking a pre-sentence report.

The judge was also addressed by Crown barrister Kate McKay who said victim statements will be obtained from Mrs Brown’s husband and three children who have been “heavily impacted”.

Judge Crawford re-listed the case for mention on October 7.

Campbell was released on continuing bail.
