The M3 re-opened after a shut down lasting a number of hours following a serious traffic collision early on Monday morning.

It was a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle. It was reported at around 6.45am and one man was taken to hospital for his injuries.

The road was closed eastbound at the bridge between the Westlink and Titanic, causing major traffic disruption. The road re-opened at approximately 9.35am.

M2 citybound traffic delays eased quickly following the reopening of the bridge, the Department for Infrastructure’s Traffic Information and Control Centre (TICC) said.

Earlier, the centre reported the bridge was closed eastbound heading towards east Belfast and the A2 Sydenham by pass, with police putting diversions in place. There was no access from M2 citybound, A12 Westlink, Nelson Street, York Link at this time.

The PSNI had reported the motorway was closed in both directions following the collision. It later said traffic was flowing normally following its re-opening..
