A man charged in connection with an assault on a Derry businessman during last year’s annual Apprentice Boys parade has pleaded guilty at the local Magistrate’s Court.

Ian Knipe (47) of Wentworth Green in Portadown had been due to contest one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a man in the Spencer Road area of the city on August 12 2023.

However, on Tuesday when the case was called a defence barrister asked that charge be put to his client again and he pleaded guilty.

Deputy District Judge Peter Prenter told the defendant he would require a pre-sentence report in this case and adjourned the case until December 6 for sentence.

Knipe was released on continuing bail.
