Man (48) arrested for suspected gun threat against taxi driver in Dungannon

POLICE have arrested a 48-year-old man after reports a taxi driver was threatened with a gun in Dungannon.

Another man (46) was previously arrested and released after the incident in the Market Square area shortly before 5.30am on Monday Morning.

A man with the suspected firearm was understood to be in a vehicle which drove off, but a weapon has yet to be recovered.

Detectives said the 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and was still in police custody.



Detective Sergeant Curley said: “The police cordon in Market Square has been removed however extensive searches are continuing in the area.

“I am appealing to anyone who may come across any suspicious items or anything they believe may be a firearm, not touch it but contact police immediately.“
