A man in his 30s has been arrested after a collision in Co Down in which a car ended up on its roof.

Police received a report of the incident in the Ballytrim Road area in Crossgar at around 6.45pm on Sunday.

Sergeant Ritchie said the driver left the scene while a passenger was injured.

“With the assistance of our air support colleagues, he was located nearby a short time later,” he said.

“A passenger in the vehicle reported minor injuries.

“The driver, a man aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, driving while disqualified and failing to stop, remain and report. He remains in custody at this time.

“Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in this collision, and we are grateful that the consequences were not much more serious.”

Ballytrim Road was closed on Sunday night while the vehicle was recovered.

Sergeant Ritchie appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who saw a black BMW 520d Sport in the area at the time leading up to the collision, to contact police by calling 101, quoting reference 1399 of 22/09/24.
