A man arrested following a major security alert at Connolly Station on Wednesday has been released without charge.

Armed gardai were deployed after reports a man was carrying a firearm on a commuter train due to arrive in the Dublin station, which was evacuated.

The man in his 50s was arrested and held for 24 hours before released at approximately 6.30pm on Thursday. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions while investigations are ongoing, gardaí said

Trains, including an Enterprise service to Belfast, were delayed as a security sweep of the station and the train was carried out. It was shut down for close to an hour.
