Man arrested over report of knife threat in Lurgan is released on bail

A man arrested after children were allegedly threatened by a male with a knife in a Co Armagh park has been released on bail.

The 59-year-old was arrested following the incident at Lord Lurgan Memorial Park in Lurgan on Thursday evening.

Police received a report at around 7pm that a man armed with a knife had threatened young people in the park.

Police said it was a “terrifying incident for the young victims” and said there were no reports of any injuries.



A man was detained at a house in nearby Woodville Street on suspicion of two counts of common assault and possession of an article with a blade or point.

Footage of the arrest captured by onlookers was circulated online.

On Saturday, a PSNI spokesperson the man who was arrested “has been released on bail to allow for further enquiries”.
