A man has been found with injuries to his arms and legs after being beaten by a gang armed with baseball bats in Newry.

Police arrived at Helen’s Terrace shortly after 10.20pm on Tuesday night to find the victim, a man in his 30s, lying on the ground injured.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, while police said a dark blue car, possibly an Audi estate, was seen leaving the area shortly after the assault.

Police also believe damage to windows at a property in the nearby Clanrye Avenue area may be linked to the assault.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “An investigation is underway and detectives would ask anyone with any information about this incident or who may have captured dash-cam or CCTV footage which could assist with their investigation, to call them at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1684 10/09/24.”
